How did you become the person you are?

Was it the paths you took or were pushed into?

Those little decisions you left to the universe.

How did you become who you are?

Was it nature or nurture? Was it

being something you didn’t choose:

female, black – non binary, non-conforming?

What tales do you tell yourself about

this or that, some random chit-chat,

or is it a book or lover, the cover of Vogue?

What changed you, boiled you from the

inside out? What paths did you cross

and with whom and why?

You are the person you have become.

Proud of it? Is pride even a wish?

You are not the person you set out to make.

Things happened so differently: spontaneously,

quietly, abruptly, like standing in a queue

and being there your whole life, only to

realise at the check-out, that it’s the

wrong one. Gone are moments of reframe, reclaim.

With youth disappears possibility. With Age

disappears spontaneity.

Were you ever the person you wanted to be?

Was the world ever a place you wanted to see?
