The Pain of Survival
There is pain in survival – in waking up.
It is not painless like all assume.
Survive and you will hurt afterwards;
it may be a day, a night, a lifetime -
forever. Survivors have a
particular pain:
Specific and sometimes horrific.
It goes with saying, survival is painful.
It is mending and bending out the
pain like a piece of crooked metal that
accidently got caught in the vice of life
or love or the hate of another. There
is no vice like hate. It warps us
beyond ourselves until we don’t want
to be a shape of any kind. Surviving
is pain of another kind, it mutates
over time into a friend who could also
be a fiend. There is no telling which
one. Waking up is breathing,
only the first step, the beginning.
