Like the Wind

Like the Wind
Like the wind –
I want to appear and
blow your cheek cold
after it’s been sun-kissed
and then leave no trace.
I want you to remember
my brief and airy embrace.
Do not chase me.
I want to reappear
like the wind –
I want to be outside
when you wake
rattling things in your heart
that make you think of me.
I want what every wind wants,
to be free.
To see sunsets and sunrises,
to make waves and trees bend.
I want to lend my breath to life,
to yours and others. Yet,
I don’t want to be permanent,
just the soft breeze on a hot evening,
a chilly wind in winter,
then gone – unremarkable and
unnoticed. I want to disappear – like the wind.
