Winter Light

Winter Light

It’s four o’clock

and twilight. The early

evening light is grey.

A bluish grey. Do you

know what I mean?

As if the cold and light

are intertwined in a

story. A beautiful and

nostalgic one. Your

grandmother’s knitted

blanket. The winter fire

flicking flames at you,

while you, like a cat, lie

outstretched on the carpet.

You are young and unfettered

by middle eastern conflict, oil

crisis or cold war hysterics.

The light seeps into your soul.

Remember how it felt?

It’s just so right. It ignites

fires and neurons and

outcomes that are warm stories.

Like bread out of the oven,

warm and formed and folded

into and around my imagination.

Oh winter light, wrap me in

comfort and let me gently

fall into a deep deep sleep.
