Our Last Night Together

Our Last Night Together
It’s our last night together. Ever!
One mother and one father,
lying in the womb together,
conspiring to live forever.
Only forty-eight orbits around the sun:
all the memories of your spirit. Too young!
Just like the first, here at the last.
It’s our last night together.
Tomorrow is not our land,
here and now is, one more time.
My tears wet, yours already dry.
As you move off into the night,
I cannot follow. I can only stand still
on the shore as you sail into
the sea of the afterlife.
We wave and we say goodbye.
